Authorities in Cyprus have removed Germany and Hungary from the list of countries considered epidemiologically safe after estimating that these territories have recently reported an increase in the number of COVID-19 infections.

As confirmed by the Cypriot Ministry of Health, such a decision means that travellers from both territories mentioned above will no longer be permitted to enter Cyprus without being subject to additional requirements such as testing or quarantine rules SchengenVisaInfo.com reports.

At present, Cyprus’ green list consists of the following countries:

• European Union Member States: Hungary, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Czech Republic
• Third countries: Australia, Jordan, New Zealand, Singapore

Germany and Hungary have been placed on the orange list, which includes medium-risk countries, meaning that travellers from both countries will be required to present a negative result of the PCR test, not older than 72 hours, upon their arrival in Cyprus.

Besides Germany and Hungary, Cyprus’ orange also includes the following countries;

• European Union Member States: Austria, Germany, Greece, Italy, Croatia, Latvia, Luxembourg, Slovenia, Finland
• Small states: Vatican City
• Schengen Members: Norway
• Third countries: Canada, Qatar, China (including Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan), Bahrein, Saudi Arabia

Besides the green and orange category, other countries that have recently reported a high number of COVID-19 infections are placed in another category, known as the red category.

Travellers from other countries placed on the red list wishing to enter Cyprus will be required to undergo double testing requirements, meaning that they must present a negative result of the COVID-19 PCR test before they arrive in Cyprus and take another test after their arrival.

At present, the red category consists of the following countries;

• European Union Member States: Belgium, Bulgaria, France, Denmark, Estonia, Ireland, Spain, Lithuania, Malta, Netherlands, Portugal, Sweden
• Small states: Andorra, Monaco, San Marino
• Schengen Members: Switzerland, Iceland, Lichtenstein
• Third countries: Azerbaijan, Egypt, Albania, Armenia, North Macedonia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Georgia, United Arab Emirates, United States of America, United Kingdom, Japan, Israel, Kuwait, Belarus, Lebanon, Montenegro, Moldova, Brunei, South Korea, Ukraine, Russia, Serbia

Last week, Cyprus’s government placed Spain, Belgium, Lithuania, Sweden, and Serbia on the red list, obliging all travellers from these countries to undergo a double testing process to enter the country.

According to the figures provided by the World Health Organization, a total of 111,140 people in Cyprus have tested positive for the Coronavirus up to this point.

The same source reveals that the virus caused the death of more than 470 people in Cyprus.
